Scansano

Where is OSTERIA RIFRULLO?
THE VILLAGE OF SCANSANO

Our walk starts from the sixteenth-century door that overlooks Piazza Garibaldi. Walking via Vittorio Emanuele II, you will reach the Church of San Giovanni Battista, the main church in town.

After the church as you keep walking you will find the Palazzo Pretorio. The old palace is now the seat of the archaeological museum and museum of grapevine and wine. Get lost in the narrow roads and take a glimpse at the breathtaking views of the valley.

If you are in the area in the summertime don’t miss the most important events, the “Festa dell’Uva” and the “Morellino Classico Festival”. Wine tasting along with wonderful and typical food from the region and music, so to get a real taste of Bassa Maremma.
Then head to Saturnia, about 30 km away from Scansano.
This small town in the Maremma hinterland is renowned throughout Italy for its spas. In Saturnia a single thermal water spring gushes out with a constant temperature of 37.5 degrees, thus favoring the flourishing of thermal complexes of excellence.
The ideal place to relax.

If you want to go on an adventure, go to the free spa called the Mulino waterfalls, a hot spring pool immersed in nature that has remained untouched and free of charge. As a second stop I recommend the town of Pitigliano.

From Saturnia you will only need to drive about twenty kilometers. This unique and fascinating village is built on tuff. In fact It’s peculiarity lies in its foundations, the village rises on a tuff cliff, an effusive magmatic rock.
Before you go into town, stop at the lookout in front of the Sanctuary of the Madonna delle Grazie, you will have a first spectacular view of the skyline of Pitigliano. Pitigliano has such an interesting historical and cultural heritage that makes it a jewel worth discovering.
