Tenuta Casadei

Tenuta Casadei is a unique estate and winery located in Alta Maremma, some 13 km from the sea and near the village of Suvereto. Visiting the estate, either by foot or aboard a horse-drawn carriage, and learning all about the local ecosystem is an enlightening experience because, alongside vine farming, the estate is committed to fostering biodiversity.

The luxuriant vineyards are planted with cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, petit verdot, merlot, syrah, muscat, ansonica, and other classic Mediterranean grape varieties. All farming and winemaking practices employed at Tenuta Casadei comply with its signature philosophy, which is called Biointegrale. Based on the principle that agriculture must enhance the biological vitality and health of the soil, Biointegrale is based on the rediscovery of sound traditional agricultural practices, and endeavors to limit human interventions on the vine.

The estate was established at the beginning of the year 2000. Stefano Casadei had come to Alta Maremma looking for the right soil and climate to farm international grape varieties. He found the ideal terroir near Suvereto, and set off on his venture: making extraordinary wines while respecting the environment and its diversity.

Sometime later, Stefano Casadei and Fred Cline met at a dinner party. The two understood one another immediately and realized they shared the same essential values: a passion for the land, wine and quality, respect for the environment and an understanding of the same grape varieties.

Today an extensive range of international grape varieties, carefully groomed and cared for in compliance with the Biointegrale method, yield Tenuta Casadei’s unique wines. The grapes are all harvested by hand, and meticulously sorted first in the vineyards and then at the sorting tables. Casadei wines marvelously reflect the scents and charm of the Tuscan coast. Their style is a balanced and elegant expression of the unique Suvereto terroir. 

Even the names of Tenuta Casadei wines recount the local environment: Armonia, a blend of red berried grapes, Sogno Mediterraneo (i.e. “Mediterranean Dream”), made with grenache, mourvèdre, syrah, Filare 41 and Filare 18, made, respectively with 100% petit verdot and 100% cabernet franc, and Incanto Mediterraneo, a blend of white grapes.
